Recently, at my son's junior high choir concert, on the back of the program was a wonderful list of why we should have music in our schools. I thought is worthy of sharing with my Let's Play Music families and friends.
1. MUSIC IS MATHEMATICAL
It is rhythmically based on the subdivisions of time into fractions which must be done instantaneously, not worked out on paper.
2. MUSIC IS A SCIENCE It is exact, specific and it demands exact acoustics. A condcuctor's score is a chart, a graph which indicates frequencies, intensities, volume changes, melody, and harmony all at once and with the most exact control of time.
