Lesson 3 and 4

WOW! They are learning so much! Can you believe they are learning to play red chords! They are so excited about learning to play Old Paint. Yesterday, was harmony at its best and why I love teaching lets play music. Both classes sang their hearts out to Horsey, Horsey, while I sang the countermelody. They did soooo good, that I pulled the mom's that were early from their vehicles to come and watch! Those mom's who witnessed such wonderful harmony please tell us how exciting it was to see them in action!
As far as the red chord, make sure to help your child lift their fingers 2 and 4 while they play 1, 3 and 5. Also, if they just are having a hard time doing all at the same time, have them say and play 1, 3, 5 separately. This will tell the brain 1, 3 and 5 and eventually they will be able to press all three fingers down at the same time. I tried this with my own daughter who was having a pretty hard time doing them all together, we tried separately and the fingers started to connect with what the mind was learning after about 4-5 times. They are all doing great! Keep up the good work and practicing!

Friday, August 29th...lesson 2

Ok, yesterday was so fun! I wish there was room for all you mom's to come and watch your cuties in action. Yesterday, was the debut of "echo edna" make sure to ask your kiddies sometime to sound like echo edna.....its a good laugh! Just ask them this: "How does echo edna sound or talk?" We mostly reviewed everything we did in lesson 1, but this weeks focus in theory is on intervals. They should be able to recognize a 2nd, 3rd and a 4th. (3rds are skips moms) (2nds are baby steps) and a 4th is a leap. Great jobs on the practicing and the homeworks. The paperclipping there activity sheet to their practice book is MAGICAL. Please remember to do this everyweek. Looking forward to more FUN!

Turtle Shells Begins!

I had two marvelous Turtle Shells classes. This is going to be such a fun year! our concept review for lesson 1 was a few things: 1. the black keys are in groups of 2 and 3; 2. bubble hands- holding the hands in correct positions; 3. intervals-two notes played at the same time! listen to your cd alot, play everyday and mom's need to sign your songbooks. The lets play music theory activity is matching each bug to its notation! HAVE FUN!

parent orientation kick off was a great success

First of all, let me say THANK YOU to all the mom's who came to the meeting. sorry for some of the technical difficulties, but that is what can happen in this high tech world. It was so fun to see everyone again and to hopefully motivate you to have a great time with your cutie this year. This year is going to be a great year of learning for all of you. Again, if you don't play the piano or are not musical, please do not be overwhelmed with your learning as well....be excited. This is exactly the classes you would need to start piano anyway, so take FULL advantage! and ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS!
I am So excited to get to see all of you next week for our first lesson! its going to be STELLAR!

spring fever is here

This is the time where EVERYONE begins to see the light at the end of the 'MAY' tunnel. for lpm the tunnel is May 1st (recital day). Try to stay on track. There are only 4 more lessons, two of which are parent days....YOU CAN DO IT! Just think, next semester "i only have to go once a month, the hard year is almost over."

My First Lets play music entry

I knew that once I committed to teaching lets play music I would be hooked!
It is the best thing I have ever done! I love seeing the development of my own children
as they PLAY music! All of the children I have had the opportunity to teach have been
Marvelous! I truly have a passion for teaching this....music theory gets lost in the repitition of
practicing the skill of whatever instrument a child is learning. This was true for my musical theory. I was so focused on learning the notes and timing, etc. that the meaning of the music, the why behind it was lost; only to be re-introduced through my oldest child while attending the lets play music class with him. There were many times I would sit in the class and think to myself..."wow! i wish i would have had this when i was younger" or "ooohhhh, that is what that is called" or that is what that is, etc. Whether your child goes on to be a fabulous skilled musician or simply has this curriculum introduced during their "music window" does not matter; they will both have a love for music and will develop some musical aptitude that will stay with them FOREVER~!
